On May 14, 2020, at 11:25a.m.; Houston Firefighters arrived at the 400 block of Melbourne Steet, and found heavy smoke and fire coming from a 1-story home. Houston Fire Department established a water supply and made an attack on the fire from the front door. Crews also began an attack from the rear of the home and attempted rooftop ventilation but the roof was too weak. A primary search was completed and the remaining crews rotated in and out of the home as needed to change out air. There was also a report of many animals inside the home. About 14 puppies and five adult dogs were found and pulled out, along with several birds, some of which did not survive. One civilian was treated on the scene with a minor injury. Three firefighters also had moderate-minor injuries. The power and gas company secured the utilities and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The owner was given information on how to contact the American Red Cross in case they needed assistance, however, they stated they did have a place to stay. Firefighters from Stations 2, 23, 15, 30, 12, 34, 19, 31, 6, 19 and Rehab responded to this incident.
