Congressman Al Green Joined Hawa Foundation to Distribute Food in Honor of Ramadan

On Sunday, May 3, 2020, Congressman Al Green joined the Hawa Foundation in commemorating Ramadan by distributing food to families in need. Congressman Green released the following statement:

“I am proud to join the Hawa Foundation in distributing food to families in need, as we observe the month of Ramadan. I must thank Founder and President, Mr. Rahman Moton, for his dedicated service and leadership in Houston’s Muslim community,” Congressman Al Green stated. “Although we must commemorate this sacred time in an unprecedented way due to the global coronavirus crisis, it brings me great joy to see the Hawa Foundation use this as an opportunity not only to empathize with those in need as Ramadan emphasizes but also to serve the less fortunate at a time when their needs may be exacerbated.”

Green added, “Each of us has a part to play in flattening the curve and defeating coronavirus. As Texas begins to reopen, let us keep the spirit of compassion and empathy alive by continuing to practice social distancing, wearing masks in public settings, as well as thoroughly washing our hands often and using hand sanitizer when necessary. I will continue to do my part in Congress as I write and vote for legislation that provides access to coronavirus testing as well as contact tracing and funds the necessary resources for life to resume with a sense of normalcy for everyone during such abnormal circumstances.”
