The Houston Fire Department is saddened to report Captain Leroy Lucio, 62, died last night, July 20, 2020, after battling Coronavirus / COVID-19. He entered the department in December of 1990 and was promoted to Captain in 2006. Lucio currently served out of Station 103, in the Kingwood Area.
A resident of San Antonio, TX, Lucio was hospitalized in San Antonio with The HFD's Firefighter Support Network and members of the HFD Honor Guard with him and his family.
The Houston Fire Department would like to acknowledge the immense debt of gratitude, which no words can express, to our fraternal brothers and sisters with the San Antonio Fire Department for the support shown to Captain Lucio and his family during this difficult time.
Captain Lucio leaves behind a loving family including his wife Eulalia, sons Andrew Larez, Michael Lucio, and daughter Elaine; and many friends and fellow firefighters who valued and enjoyed working with him.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Captain Leroy Lucio,” says Fire Chief Sam Peña. “Our hearts go out to his family, friends and the many lives he touched through his work in our community. Such a kind person will be missed, but my faith comforts me that his work here on earth was complete and God called for him to be by his side as he watches over all first responders.”
